• This institute was first establishmed in the year 1996 by the PIPMATE  Society ,Pondicherry in the name of 'Yanam Polytechnic' with the following  courses:

          1. Computer Technology                                      30 seats
          2. Electronics and Communication Engineering      30 seats
 
 

•   Thee years have been completed and IVth year is going on during this academic year 1999-2000  and the first batch from this Institute came out in  May 1999.
•  The name of this Institute was changed later on and known as "Dr. B.R. AMBEDKAR POLYTECHNIC", Yanam vide I.D Note/Memo No.117895/Edn Sectt/E3/97 dt.18-3-98 of the Under Secretary to Government (Education),Pondicherry.

•  As far as the conduct of examination is concerned it is fully under the pattern and supervision of the Directotrate of Technical Education,Chennai.This Institute has so far been conducting examination as per the system and pattern of Directorate of Technical Education.

• The first batch from both Electronics and Communication Enginnering and Computer Technology branches left the Institute after completing the stipulated three years Diploma Course during April/May 1999.

• An Industrial Training Institute was established at Yanam during the month of August,1997 fulfilling a long dream of the Yanam people  with two trades as FITTER and MECHANIC(MOTOR VEHICLE).
• Each trade having a strength of 16 trainees and duration of course is two years in each trade. Admissions are generally started in every two years(ie., July/August) with the educational qualifications of SSC passed or its equivalent courses.
• The above courses of first batch (ie. session 1997-99) has been completed during the month   of July,99, in which 100% result was secured in both trades.

• In view of providing employment opportunities in Industries/Public sector Units, the above courses are very much needed, for which practical knowledge is imparting to the each trainee/student
•  Another new trades/courses of Electrician and Wireman will be started from the Academic year 2000-2001 (ie. July/August,2000), for which all the tools,valuable equipments are being purchased to start the above two proposed trades.
• This institution is functioning in M/s. Lakshmi Oils Mills (Pvt.) Ltd., Yanam by paying monthly rent of Rs.15,000/- to M/s.PIPDIC., Pondicherry, since all the infrastructural facilities are available to conduct the theory/practical classes and also for the introduction of  new  trades in future.

 PURPOSE
 

•  The National Policy on Education 1986 envisaged that the  children  with  special talent and aptitude  should  be provided with ofpurtunities to learn better and at faster pace by making quality education available to them, irrespective of their capacity  to  pay  for it.
• In order to serve this  purpose,  the Government  of India established 408 Jawahar Navodaya  Vidyalayas through the length and breadth of the Country.

•  The  Navodaya  Vidyalaya system is an unique  residential experiment  unparallel  in the school education in India.

• Mettakur is located 3 kms away from Yanam proper.  It is above the flood level.  The Vidyalaya complex construction work is in progress on the 25 acre tract  of land of this Mettakur area.

• In-service courses are organised for teachers the memnbers of the staff  attend orientation courses and workshops organised time and age again by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samithi, NCERT, CCRT to equip themselves with the innovative practices and advanced techniques.

• For the improvement of the Vidyalaya we are having PTA All emmbers of  this committee are taking active part in running the vidyalaya in a smooth manner.

• The principal, all housemasters, house leaders, catering assistant and staff nurse are members of the mess committee., We provide balanced diet to all the children., The committee meets once in a month to discuss various aspects including short comings for the improvenemnt of the mess.

The activities of clubs
 

• Organised Science exhibitions in the school level, film shows on different topics in science are shown. Conducting elocution,quiz, debates etc.,

• Every year our students participate in the science exhibitions conducted by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti,Yanam district level and pondicherry state level exhibitions. Our students stood first in the Yanam region in science,seminar and participated in the state levelscience seminar at Pondichery.

• Science exhibitions are  organised inschoollevel. The  exhibits are prepared by our students as project works. Social science workshop was conducted for all the Jawahar Novodaya Vidyalayas of cluster VI in our Vidyalaya.Participation of students in performing arts at state and National Level:

• Our students participated in the art and creative writing at cluster level.They also participated in the art-in-education and Integration Meet 99 conducted by Novodaya Vidyalaya Samliti at New Delhi.
