The Yanam Library is started on 23.12.1963 by the then Adminstrator and further new Building was constructed at High School Road, Yanam. It was inaugurated by the Hon'ble Minister for Education of Pondicherry Govt. M.Gandhi Raj on 23.7.1993.

The total cost of the building is Rs. 13 Lakhs. It is maintained by the Department of Art & Culture, Govt. of Pondicherry.

Books

At present, this Library abounds Seventeen Thousand Books, Seven Thousand Reference Books. It also contains various Magazines related to Science, Philosophy, Education etc. in different languages like Telugu, Tamil,. Hindi, English, Malayalam and French.

The National Standards Committee conducted survey and judged this library as the Best Library. Consequently, the Raja Rama Mohan Roy Library Foundation, Calcutta is sanctioning the books of value Rs. 25,000 every year to this Library.

Reading Room
The Peaceful atmosphere and hygienic surroundings attract more readers from different places. Daily around 500 readers are used to visit this Library.The special attraction of this library is that it has 30 volumes of books published by the British Government about different European Countries in Commonwealth State Assistance Programme.

There are different sections of books in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, French in this Library. . Every Year 50% of the budget will be dedicated for Reference Books.

Children's  wing

Recently, a special reading room for children is started in the first floor of this building. It has got around Seven Thousand Books meant for children. Now, it is proposed to purchase a VCR, TV for this wing with a view to educate them.
